What more beautiful sound in springtime than the melodious song of the blackbird?  Here a female blackbird perches in a blossoming apple tree while being serenaded by a potential mate. 

The common or Eurasian blackbird (turdus merula) is widely distributed across temperate Europe, North Africa and South Asia and has been introduced into Australia and New Zealand.  Pairs usually stay together for life and defend their territory with short but aggressive threat displays.

This original pencil drawing was drawn with Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance pencils on Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper.
